What makes painting possible week after week is the half-belief that somewhere, like a thin bookmark slipped between all the paintings done and all the paintings waiting to be done is one perfect painting (truth?) in which there will be an absolutely perfect idea and ideal articulation of that idea to make make one perfect whole.


In a sense one only paints 1 picture (or perhaps 2 or 3) in a lifetime. What seems like progress and development and change is really only improvement. One learns to paint ones pictures more directly, more perfectly etc. I have only just started to believe this I think.
